A life devoted to justice
A judge for almost fifty years, Dott. Tommaso Novelli served at the Court of Cassation as judge, counsellor and president of division, and at the Ministry of Justice; from 1978 to 1981 he was First President of the Supreme Court. His legacy lives on in the rigour of his judgement and in his respect for all those who turn to the law.
A practice that carries his memory
Studio Legale G.D.D. is founded on a passion for the profession and on the human and ethical values that Dott. Novelli passed on to his grandson, Avv. Luca Giurato. The practice is dedicated to his memory.
His life
A life in the judiciary
- 1911
Born on 4 April in Formicola, in the province of Caserta.
- 1933
Joins the judiciary at the age of twenty-two.
- 1956
With Mario Battaglini, edits the “Code of Civil Procedure annotated with the case law of the Court of Cassation” (Giuffrè), which he will keep updating until the 1990 edition.
- 1960s
At the Ministry of Justice he serves as deputy head of the Minister's cabinet, then as director general of Civil Affairs and the Liberal Professions.
- 1978
On 20 July he is appointed First President of the Supreme Court of Cassation, having previously served there as judge, counsellor and president of division.
- 1981
On 23 April he leaves the Presidency and the judiciary.
- 1986
Concludes his presidency of a division of the Central Tax Commission, a position he held for decades.
- 2014
Dies in Rome on 26 September, at the age of one hundred and three.
